There was once a gardener who was hired by my father. He was a poor man and had never been to school. Even though his reading skills were rudimentary, he had read anything and everything that he could get his hands on. He had no kind of degree or qualification and yet he was the kindest and most honest person I know. He was poor yet generous to the greatest degree.
He did not lie and worked hard to make a living. He loved his work he appreciated the beauty around him. To me, this man was one who was trying to get to the real essence of education more than the highly skilled professionals I know. He left an impression on me, inspired me and taught me that a person is not defined by the amount of money he has or by the degrees he possesses but by his character and qualities which he acquires through education, or rather true education.
I think a quote by Bertrand Russell sums up what I feel about superficial education that does not really allow a person to grow.
‘Men are born ignorant, not stupid; they are made stupid by education.’
