Internet plays a role in the shaping of democracy and policymaking inside the world’s most powerful institutions preoccupied with promoting democracy, human rights, or an open society.  However, there can be a tendency of overestimating its use in this. My own host institution, the Open Society Institute is on this list and is not innocent of relying on similar assumptions.

One could say that the Internet has acquired a cult following among such institutions. Internet users help to shape and promote new ideologies which help political parties tap into their collective wisdom by borrowing some major policy points from these online discussions such as the Wikipedia and blogs (Morozov, 2011).
