The concept of self development is shaped by the socio cognitive level, cultural differences and groups within a society. Therefore, cultural identity and cultural differences are present in a mass environment an while eking out the existence of a minority culture, hence, the term ‘biculturality’. At the same time there is no guarantee that a shared culture would produce homogenous individuals.
Various theories have been devised in this regard such as The Melting Pot theory and Cultural Deficit Theory etcetera mentioning that minority culture is less dominant in the mainstream culture and does not completely mingle in the majority; however, they were much criticized upon. Unlike these theories, the theory of biculturalism suggests that individuals socialize and evolve within their own group and eventually in the majority culture; the norm is easily triggered especially with the help of mass media these days because of which the society gets to witness a blend of cultures.
