Essay: Uniting in Death

Isolde seems unaware of their presence.  With her eyes fixed on Tristan, she imagines she sees him smiling, and begins the process of sinking into her own oblivion.  She sings the words, “Mild und leise wie er lächelt,” (Gently and softly he is smiling), the opening words of Isolde’s Liebestod (Love-Death).

Essay: Tristan and Isolde

Tristan und Isolde is the most symphonic of Wagner’s operas. The drama is played out not so much on the stage but in the orchestra.  Leitmotifs are stated, combined, recombined and contrasted in a whirl of continuous motion. The motives, feelings, and desires of the characters are explained and underlined in the orchestra.  The solo voices are part of the overall fabric.

Essay: The use of prepositions in sentences

The use of prepositions in sentences enables the laying of emphasis in these sentences. “This new policy from Samsung Company makes everybody happy.” This means that the policy makes everybody happy. However, we can modify the phrases of Samsung and policy to change the focus of the sentence. For example; “the new policy, Samsung company, makes everybody very happy” this means that both the policy and company make everybody happy.

Essay: Using Prepositions Correctly

The sentences can be edited as follows in order to be correct. “There was an economics class starting at 6:10pm.” The second sentence is not grammatically correct by using “was”, “There is an economics class which starts at 6:10pm.” This means that the class already exists and starts at that time.

Essay: Vehicle of Expression

Opera has flourished throughout the world as a vehicle for the expression of the full range of human emotions.  Italians claim the art form as their own, retaining dominance in the field through the death of Giacomo Puccini in 1924.  Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Leoncavallo developed the art form through clearly defined periods that produced opera buffa, opera seria, bel canto, and verismo.  The Austrian Mozart also wrote operas in Italian and championed the singspiel (sing play), which combined the spoken word with music, a form also used by Beethoven in his only opera, Fidelio.

Essay: Position of prepositions

The preposition phrases are words that do not make complete sentences, and when placed at the beginning of a sentence, they require a comma after them. The placement of the preposition phrase slightly shifts the focus in the sentence, while the comma puts a pause in reading. Therefore the set of sentences are correct. Example: he was at peace by lying on the bed, or, by lying on the bed, he was at peace.

Essay: Causative verbs “let,” “make”, “have” and “get”.

They take the following form in sentences; “let” follows; [let+person+verb] when used the sentences take son the meaning of allowing someone to do something. Example: “I hope my boss will let me take the week off.”

Make: means to force someone to do something

Example: “I was made to apologize for what I had said.” “She made them wear their raincoats.”

Have: means to give someone the responsibility to do something.
